Requirements

  • Nuke Indie or Commercial: Not compatible with the free version of Nuke.
  • Moderately Powerful GPU: A BlinkScript-capable GPU is recommended.

Note: For complex effects, work in a separate script to avoid potential BlinkScript crashes. Regular backups are advised.

Tech Requirements

BlinkScript, a feature of Foundry's Nuke, enables developers to create custom image processing kernels that operate on both CPUs and GPUs. The BlinkScript code is translated into C++ or SIMD for CPU execution, and into OpenCL for GPU execution.

GPU Acceleration Requirements

  • NVIDIA GPUs: To utilize GPU acceleration with BlinkScript, an NVIDIA GPU with CUDA drivers version 4.2 or above is required.
  • AMD GPUs: Nuke also supports AMD GPUs capable of running OpenCL 1.2 and above.

Note: BlinkScript nodes can operate on the CPU without GPU acceleration. However, enabling GPU acceleration can significantly enhance processing performance when a compatible GPU is available.

Limitations and Considerations

The best version to use is NukeX 15.1v4, as this plugin was specifically compiled and tested in that version. While other Nuke 15 variants may function correctly, please note that BlinkScript nodes may take 1-2 seconds to recompile if you open your scripts in a version other than the one recommended above. This plugin is not supported on Nuke 13 or Nuke 14.

  • Version Compatibility: BlinkScript nodes will recompile upon loading if created in a different version of Nuke. It is strongly recommended to use the nodes in the exact Nuke version they were compiled for (NukeX 15.1v4) to ensure maximum stability and avoid potential crashes caused by subtle version differences.
  • Workflow Best Practices: For shots involving extensive use of BlinkScript, it's advisable to manage them in a separate script from the main project. This approach allows you to import the generated assets, ensuring a more organized and stable workflow.
  • Nuke Non-Commercial Restrictions: In the non-commercial version of Nuke, the BlinkScript node is disabled. To use this plugin, you must have a Nuke Indie or Nuke Commercial license.
